I would love to speak about blue jays and oaks (and birdwatching!) to young readers at your school, nature center, public library, or nonprofit organization.
I am also available to participate in book festivals, conferences, or community events.
Programs last 30-50 minutes and may include a reading and/or presentation, activity or writing workshop, Q&A and book signing.
I can do in-person or virtual author presentations.

PRESENTATION TOPICS
Becoming an Author (Kindergarten and up)
Story ideas are all around us. Learn how one author progressed from a childhood love of reading to a career as an author. Students will see the journey from picture book inspiration (a photo) to a published book. Lynn will share the book-making process from first draft to early illustrator black-and-white sketches to final in-color art and the finished story.
Start Birding and Become a Better Observer / Participatory Science (Kindergarten and up)
Birds are around us every day. Learn more about ways to identify birds, from color and size to songs and habitats. This is an indoor presentation with practical tips for how to begin, where to look, setting up your own bird feeders, and ways to record observations.
(Optional discussion may include participatory science.)
Participatory science is an opportunity for students and citizens to provide data to scientists to solve real world problems. Using THE BLUE JAYS THAT GREW A FOREST, we’ll talk about ways to become observers, keep track of data for projects like the Great Backyard Bird Count, and look at online resources for project ideas. While writing THE BLUE JAYS THAT GREW A FOREST, Lynn was part of Project FeederWatch, a six-month backyard data-collecting exercise.
